Churachandpur: Police in Manipur’s Churachandpur district have taken up a suo-motu FIR against members of the Joint Students’ Body. The student body is allegedly behind the declaration of every Friday as a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions in the district.
The Manipur government had earlier termed the notification of the students’ body as “totally illegal” while informing that the state government had taken up necessary preventive and precautionary measures along with robust mechanisms to avoid any untoward incident.

Another press release issued by Manipur chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi today said that the notice issued by the Joint Students’ Body on October 26 last was circulated without any authority/jurisdiction, through different media including social media platforms – different WhatsApp groups etc.
“The content in the notice is likely to aggravate the ongoing law and order crisis in the state that deliberate attempt of renaming of institutions and places had been made along with public declaration for the adoption of a resolution for observing every Friday as a holiday by all institutions of the government of Manipur including the offices of the DCs/SPs/ZEO/ADC’s, government schools/colleges in the town of Churachandpur.

“Any such act of spreading message/circulating materials/press release/public notice which poses threat to communal harmony, peaceful co-existence, internal and national security has been viewed very seriously by the state government with utmost sensitivity”, the chief secretary stated in the press release.
It added that the state government is taking all possible steps without leaving any stone unturned to book the culprit(s) involved under relevant provisions of law for the time being in force.
Intelligence gathering has been strengthened. Now, Churachandpur police station has also registered one suo-motu FIR No. 2823(10)2023 CCP-PS u/s 186/341/189/506 IPC in this regard against the members of the Joint Students’ Body.

The press release further urged the general public including all public functionaries not to rely on such posts/material/press releases/public notices which had been illegally generated and spread through different media and also not to follow/resort to any kind of unwanted act/violence.
