Chandel Police Observe International Day Against Drug Abuse with Bike Rally and Awareness Campaigns

CHANDEL, June 26: Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Chandel Police on Friday organised a series of awareness programmes across the district under the global theme, “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, and Innovative Responses.”

The district-wide observance, led by Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Tyagi, IPS, aimed to raise public awareness on the dangers of drug abuse while encouraging collective action against the growing menace of illicit drug trafficking.

As part of the campaign, a bike rally was flagged off by SP Dharmendra Tyagi from the District Sports Complex, Chandel. The rally travelled through Chandel Christian and Pallel on NH 102C before culminating at the District Headquarters, Chandel. More than 100 officers and personnel of the Chandel Police, including O. Sukumar Singh MPS, Additional SP (L/O); Ts Chamna Anal MPS, Addl SP (Ops); Officers-in-Charge of Chandel and Khengjoi Police Stations, along with like-minded citizens like Huten Joyful Anal, member of the District Joint Cell Against Drugs and Alcohol participated enthusiastically in the rally, with the Superintendent of Police leading the procession on his motorcycle.

Following the rally, awareness programmes were conducted simultaneously at Chandel Headquarters and Chakpikarong Sub-Division.

At Chandel Headquarters, the programme was organised in collaboration with the Maha Area Chiefs’ Association (MACA) at the Town Hall, Panchai. The event led by Addl SP Ts Chamna and Inspector Sanjoy Khanganba, OC Chandel Police Station, witnessed the participation of nearly 200 people, including vice chairman and Secretary of MACA N. Moniren Moyon and Ts Caleb Anal along with their executive members, various village authorities from surrounding villages, leaders, youth, and members of the public, who gathered to reaffirm their commitment to combating drug abuse through awareness, prevention, and community cooperation.

Meanwhile, in Chakpikarong Sub-Division, a parallel awareness programme was organised jointly with the Anal Naga Chiefs’ Association and Anal Lenruwl Tangpi (ALT), Chakpikarong, underscoring the importance of grassroots participation in the fight against substance abuse. Inspector Joy Martin, OC Chakpikarong, hosted the event which was attended by Ts Berek Anal, president of ANCA (CKG Subdivision) and RT Sainiel Anal, president of ALT (CKG subdivision) and citizens from neighbouring villages.

The observance highlighted the crucial role of community engagement, education, and collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies, traditional institutions, and civil society in addressing the persistent challenges posed by drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Through these initiatives, Chandel Police reaffirmed its commitment to building a drug-free society and fostering a safer future for the district’s youth.
