Cherry Blossom Unity Run Draws Over 100 Athlete

MAO, NOV 18: The Cherry Blossom Unity Run, a highlight of the ongoing Sangai Festival, saw a strong turnout today with over 100 athletes competing. The 10-kilometer race, themed “Run in harmony, bloom in unity,” started at the Tadubi Football Ground and finished at the Flower Festival site in Motu Tobvii.

A total of 103 runners participated, with 77 in the men’s category and 26 in the women’s.

In the men’s division, Md. Rahish Khan from Imphal took first place with a time of 29 minutes and 42 seconds. Ringhorsem Muinao (Ukhrul) followed as the 1st runner-up at 29:54, and Daikho Pfokreni (Song Song Village) was the 2nd runner-up with 31:31.

The women’s category was won by Asiisii Athine (New Makhan) in 41 minutes and 40 seconds. Khune Ahrai (Tungam Village) secured the 1st runner-up position at 43:03, and Daihrii Koshune (Makhan Centre) was the 2nd runner-up with 45:36.

Adding to the event’s spirit, Major Vijay Singh of the Bravo Company, Mao Post, ran to inspire young athletes and completed the course in 44 minutes and 43 seconds.

Prizes were distributed by Jonah Chawang, Officer-in-Charge of Mao Police Station, and Major Vijay Singh. They congratulated the winners and commended all participants for their sportsmanship.

The event is part of the Cherry Blossom & Flower Festival, promoting community engagement and adding to the vibrancy of the state’s annual celebrations.
