CHURACHANDPUR, NOV 25: A 14-year-old Class 7 student, displaced by the ongoing Manipur crisis, attempted to volunteer for the Territorial Army recruitment rally at 37 AR Khuga Battalion in Churachandpur on Tuesday in a desperate bid to support his family.
Master Pausiankap from Sugnu village in Chandel district, currently studying at Bijang Loubuk Jr. High School, Zenhang Lamka, arrived at the recruitment venue after learning about the process through social media. However, he was immediately turned away for being underage and not meeting the required educational qualifications.

After the incident went viral, Commander of 27 Sector Assam Rifles, Brig. S. Prasant, took note of the boy’s situation. Moved by his determination and the hardships faced by his family, the Commander assured that efforts would be made to facilitate the boy’s education in an Army school.
Pausiankap’s family had fled to Churachandpur following the outbreak of the present Manipur crisis on May 3, 2023, after their house was allegedly burnt down. The family has since been taking shelter at Zogal Hall, Zouveng Relief Centre.
It was also learned that the boy’s father, Mr. Linus Mungvanglian—an ex-serviceman discharged on medical grounds—has not been receiving his regular pension. Brig. Peasant reportedly assured assistance to ensure the pension issues are addressed.
The hardship faced by the family is believed to be the reason why the young boy attempted to join the Territorial Army, hoping to secure a livelihood for his displaced family.
