CM Biren lays foundation for Raj Medicity Super Specialty hospital in Imphal

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday laid the foundation for Raj Medicity Super Specialty Hospital which will be constructed at Khurai Chingangbam Leikai in Imphal East district. 

The super specialty hospital which will be constructed at an estimated amount of Rs 130 crore is expected to the completed in two and half years of time.

Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Biren Singh said that the government is giving priority to the health and education sector, putting much effort to develop the sector.

The chief minister informed that a cancer unit at JNIMS is being constructed on PPP model with the KARNIKOS Healthcare, an international organisation, and is expected to inaugurate the hospital by March next year.

With the new Cancer Unit at JNIMS, people of Manipur can access to treatment here in the state, without having to go outside the state for diagnosis and treatment of cancer and lessen the hardships face by the people of the state, Singh said.

Further, the chief minister said that with the increase in the MBBS seats from 100 to 150 at JNIMS and opening of Churachandpur Medical College with 100 MBBS seats, the state can now produce around 500 MBBS in a year. This will somehow solve the shortage of doctors in the State to some extent, he added. He continued that following the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to open a Medical College in each district of the country, the state government has plan to set up medical colleges in some other districts.

Highlighting the initiatives taken up by the government to provide accessible healthcare services to the public including CMHT, Ayushman Bharat and Health For All scheme, the chief minister informed that more than 700 villages had been covered under the Health For All scheme and testing and check up for more than 3 lakh people had been done so far. Early testing and diagnosis of diseases would help in early treatment of the same, he added.

Chairman and managing director of Raj Medicity H Rajen Singh in his keynote address informed that Raj Medicity which had a humble beginning in 2004 as Raj Polyclinic and later rechristened as Raj Medicity in 2014, is now playing an important role in providing healthcare to people of the state with the help of its 600 staffs.

Rajen further said that the new super specialty hospital will be a 400 bedding facilities and employed around 1,500 employees, including doctors, nurses and paramedics staff.

Rajen highlighted its achievements during the 19 years of service to the people of the state. 

During the pandemic, we were able to construct a dedicated 100-bedded COVID-19 hospital within three months and treated as many as 1,512 COVID-19 positive patients in the state, added Rajen.
