CM Khemchand Extends Rs 1 Lakh Medical Aid to IDPs in Imphal

IMPHAL: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday gave financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to 26 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) suffering from serious illnesses at the Lamboikhongnangkhong Relief Camp in Imphal West district.

The beneficiaries, many of whom are suffering from kidney diseases, cancer and other chronic illnesses, received the assistance during a programme held at the Manipur Trade Expo Centre Relief Camp at Lamboikhongnangkhong.

Speaking at the programme, Khemchand Singh said the government is trying to support displaced families who are facing many hardships after being forced to leave their homes due to the ongoing crisis in the state.

He said special financial help is being given to IDPs suffering from serious diseases so they can continue their medical treatment and get some relief during difficult times.

The Chief Minister assured that the government would continue to help displaced families in the future and said Monday’s assistance was not the end of the government’s support.

“It is very unfortunate that many people are still unable to return to their homes and are living in relief camps,” he said.

He further said the financial assistance was given with the hope of reducing the suffering of families already facing both displacement and health problems.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Manipur Pradesh President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi said she would continue to raise the issues and problems faced by IDPs at every possible platform.

Replying to reporters on the demand for a special package for IDPs, she said she would work together with the state government and help displaced families in every possible way as a Member of Parliament.

She also announced that weaving machines and support for other livelihood activities would be provided to women staying at the relief camp.

The programme was attended by Sanasam Premchandra Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, government officials and displaced persons staying at the camp.
