IMPHAL: Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Thursday visited the bereaved family of musician and music teacher Chongtham Vikram at their residence in Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai, Imphal West, and assured them that those responsible for his death would be brought to justice.
The chief minister, according to DIPR press release, met Vikram’s parents, wife and son during the visit and assured the family of all possible assistance and support.
The chief minister expressed sorrow over Vikram’s death and said justice would be delivered in the case.
Vikram, a musician and music teacher from Manipur, died following a brutal assault at his residence in Kilokri, New Delhi. He is survived by his wife and son.
The chief minister had on September 8 written to Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta seeking a fair, time-bound and high-level investigation into the case, with the perpetrators and conspirators apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with law. He had also called for stronger security measures in localities with significant populations of people from Manipur and other northeastern states.
Vikram’s mortal remains were brought back to Imphal on Wednesday, where family members, local residents and fellow musicians gathered to receive his body. His family has called for a thorough and transparent investigation and swift justice.
Vikram, a well-known guitarist and music teacher from Manipur, died after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of men in Delhi. His death has triggered widespread concern among the music fraternity and northeastern communities, with calls for a transparent investigation and accountability.
During Thursday’s visit, Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan Singh was also present.
