In a statement issued on Thursday, the CNPO expressed outrage over the assault on Th. Merangshing Charanga (23), son of Th. Angrung Charanga. The victim went missing on September 1 and was found two days later with severe injuries after reportedly being subjected to third-degree torture.
“The barbaric physical assault on an innocent villager is a big threat to our safety and peaceful living,” the CNPO said, warning that the fear and trauma from such incidents would only worsen the already fragile situation in Manipur’s border areas.
The organisation urged higher authorities to ensure swift justice for the victim and his family, while reiterating its stand against violence that undermines community harmony.
Earlier, the Choktong Village Authority had also submitted a memorandum to the Maring Uparap Assembly (MUA), demanding immediate legal action and justice for the victim. The letter condemned the act as “barbaric” and called for urgent intervention from authorities to prevent further violence.
