COCOMI Oragnises Human Chain Protests Over Drone Bombings, Demands Government Action

Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) staged a widespread human chain protest across Manipur on Friday, denouncing the alleged inaction of both Central and State governments after drone bombings reportedly carried out by Kuki armed groups.

The protest saw participation from various groups, including Meira Paibis, civil society organizations, local clubs, legal practitioners and students in districts like Imphal, Bishnupur, and Jiribam. In Imphal City, human chains were formed at several places including Sagolband, Uripok, Khurai, Tiddim Road, Keishampat, and Thangmeiband.

Protesters demanded urgent and decisive measures to end the escalating violence, calling for Kuki armed groups to be officially declared as terrorists. Students, particularly from vulnerable regions, expressed frustration over the disruption to their education due to the unrest and urged the government to restore peace and hold the perpetrators accountable.

COCOMI on Friday set a five-day deadline for the central security forces to take actions against the Kuki militants for resorting to drone attack on Meitei villages. If the central forces fail to do so then the COCOMI said it will begin “mass movement” against the former.

No untoward incidents were reported during the peaceful protest demonstration.
