COCOMI Backs UNC Economic Blockade After Kanto Sabal Incident

IMPHAL: Co-ordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a conglomerate of several civil society organisations, has announced today to endorse the “inter-district economic blockade” of the United Naga Council (UNC) with immediate effect following the burning of six Meitei houses by what it called “narco terrorists”. 

Two days ago, six Meitei houses were burnt down at Kanto Sabal allegedly by the Kukis.

It can be mentioned here that the UNC’s inter-district economic blockade began on May 17, 2026, evening in connection with the abduction of six Nagas. The mutilated bodies of the six Nagas were found on June 10. 

Till date the charters of demand of the UNC have not been met.

The demands include the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with all Kuki militant groups; immediate arrest and prosecution of all Kuki National Front – President group (KNF-P) personnel involved in the abduction of 18 Naga civilians including two pastors on May 13, 2026, at Leilon Vaiphei village and the subsequent cold blooded murder of 6 of them.

The UNC also demands that the government declares Kuki National Front-President Group (KNF-P) as a terrorist organization. The Naga body further demands immediate removal of Nemcha Kipgen from the position of Deputy Chief Minister, Manipur, the wife of Semtinthang @ Thangboi Kipgen, president of KNF-P, a Kuki militant group “who is complicit in the murder of the Naga civilians mentioned above”.
