Multiple Communities Rally in Manipur, Seek Accountability for Recent Violence

Published on

UKHRUL: Protesters from various communities in Manipur took to Khuman Lampak ISBT on Monday, raising slogans and demanding justice and accountability over the Tronglaobi terror attack, CRPF firing at Gelmon, and the ambush near TM Kasom village.

The demonstration, led by Tangkhul and Meitei communities, sought action against Kuki militants, who they claimed were allegedly responsible for the recent violent attacks in Manipur. The Tronglaobi attack resulted in the death of two minors. Following the incident, people protesting against the attack turned violent, prompting the CRPF to open fire, in which at least three people were killed and several others injured. In yet another case, two travelers were shot dead on National Highway-202 near TM Kasom, leaving others injured.

President of Naga Peoples Union Imphal, M. Ngaranmi, condemning the killings, urged both the Centre and the State government to take decisive action against Kuki militants, who he alleges are responsible for the incident. Protesters also urged the government to take decisive action against what they termed “terrorist attacks on indigenous people of the state.” They also criticized the use of force by security personnel during democratic demonstrations and called for immediate steps to restore normalcy in the state and prevent further violence.
