A compensation of Rs 7 lakh has been handed over to the bereaved family of a victim from Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency who was gang raped by 4 persons in September last year.
It may be mentioned that the victim was left by the rapists in a semi conscious state and was found by the locals in the same state on the early morning of September 2, 2020 and was rushed to RIMS but her situation deteriorated and passed away later.
The amount was handed over to the Deputy Speaker, Kongkham Robindro by the Chief Minister N Biren Singh to be given to the victim’s family.
K Robindro handed over the compensation amount to the family of the victim in a simple ceremony held at the community hall of Mayang Imphal Bengoon Loukok yesterday and speaking on the occasion, he stated that such incidents are really unfortunate and prayed that such type of incidents do not recur.
He maintained that the main accused of the incident were arrested by the State Police and are in jail at the moment.
Due to some problems in the bank account number provided by the victim’s family and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there have been some delay in handing over the compensation amount, he continued and apologised for the same.
He also gave assurance of providing an appropriate Government job to the younger brother of the deceased when he attains the eligible age.
Further he expressed the desire of observing a memorial day on the death anniversary of the victim annually.
The Deputy Speaker also expressed gratitude to members of local clubs of Bengoon Loukok, JAC, MMWO and other Muslim organisations for their continuous support in the arrest of the main accused persons namely Md Arish, Md Salim.
Md Murmohamad and Md Faiji @ Mohamad who are in jail at the moment.
