Condemnation against Sawombung Imphal Incident

Ukhrul: The Tushen Chanhong Village Authority, Tushen Chanhong Youth & Students’ Organisation (TCYSO), Tushen Chanhong Shanao Long (Women’s Union) has vehemently condemned the heinous act committed by some unidentified armed Meitei/Meetei miscreants on 3 December 2023 at Sawombung, Imphal.

The condemnation note stated that “Nganingmi Mawon s/o Hillstone Mawon, who is a citizen of Tushen Chanhong village, along with Ngathinghor Ngalung s/o John Ngalung (Ringui village) and Thotreingam Chithung s/o Areishing Chithung (Khoirupok village) were allegedly beaten black and blue by some unidentified armed Meitei/Meetei miscreants at Sawombung, Imphal on the night of December 3, 2023 (Sunday) while the three persons were on their way back to Ukhrul from Imphal. Therefore, the above-mentioned bodies condemn such heinous acts and demand the concerned authorities responsible for maintaining law and order to bring about justice for the three young men at the earliest and bring the miscreants who committed such atrocities into light and avoid such heinous acts in the near future.”

It also appeals to the apex bodies of the Tangkhul Civil Societies to help in bringing forth justice for the three young men. The condemnation was jointly signed by Wunghon Chahongnao, headman of Tushen Chanhong, Ch Somipam, president TCSYO and My Dinah, president TCSL.

Meanwhile, the Tangkhul frontal organisations have also strongly condemned the callous act and said the attack inflicted to the innocent citizens is inhumane and unwarranted.

Reminding of the repeated atrocities meted to the innocent Tangkhul Naga citizens it added that in many of such past incidents, the Tangkhul community in good faith have tolerated enough with the sense of forgiveness.

The Tangkhul frontal organisations have also condemned the Meira Paibis and accused the Meitei womenfolk working hand in gloves with the armed groups.

While demanding compensation for the traumatized victims, the four Tangkhul frontal organisations demanded the state government to act and book the culprits within 48-hours and ensure the safety of the commuters along the Imphal – Ukhrul road.

The four Tangkhul frontal organisations namely, the Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long, Tangkhul Shanao Long, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long also warned, “Failing which, this shall be considered as a willful act carried out in congruence with the state government and we shall act accordingly.”
