UKHRUL: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has announced a 24-hour total shutdown in Kangpokpi district following reported coordinated attacks in Chassad, Kamjong district, and Yaolen and Ukhrul district by alleged Tangkhul and Liangmei elements associated with the NSCN-IM.
Citing the possibility of further escalation and security threats to civilians, the shutdown will take effect from 6 p.m. on Saturday.
“These attacks pose a serious threat to the lives, safety and security of civilians. Given the possibility of further attacks in other vulnerable areas, the prevailing situation demands precautionary measures to safeguard innocent lives and prevent further escalation of violence,” CoTU stated.
The committee condemned all acts of violence and intimidation directed against civilians and called on the administration to take immediate and effective measures to protect vulnerable communities. “The safety and security of our people cannot be compromised,” it added.
