Covid claims former AMWJU president S Hemant

Former president of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), Sagolshem Hemant of Keishamthong Moirang Ningthou Leirak breathed his last at RIMS at around 5 am today. He died of COVID-19.

Hemant, who headed AMWJU for two terms, left behind a wife and two sons. Mourning the demise of the eminent journalist, AMWJU and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) convened a condolence meeting and observed silence for two minutes as a tribute to the deceased.

AMWJU, in a statement, said that the demise of S Hemant has left behind an irreparable void to the journalists’ community.

The meeting also shared the grief of the bereaved family. He had worked as Editor for different dailies and weekly/monthly journals such as ‘Pudin’, ‘Eikhoigee Panthung’, ‘Ningtam Lanpao’, etc. during his lifetime. Hemant was the author of the books “Khengjoi Chingsang Da”, “Beyond the Misty Hills” and “Turelgi Wari” among others.

United People’s Front Manipur (UPF), Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur (PAWF), Manipur, Assam and Tripura and Royal Riders Manipur also condoled the sudden demise of Hemant and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. Hemant was born on November 14, 1955.
