Amid surge in the spread of Covid-19 infections and death rate in the district, Joseph Pauline Kamson, IAS, district magistrate Ukhrul had extended public curfew in the whole area situated within the revenue district of Ukhrul till June 30. However, given the hardships being faced by the populace due to prolonged curfew, it has allowed vegetables vendors and grocery shops to open from 10 am to 2 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday until further notice.

Ukhrul district along with other six districts of the state including Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching and Churachandpur had come under the purview of the curfew.

Meanwhile, residents of nine districts namely Senapati, Kangpokpi, Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Pherzawl, Noney, Tamenglong and Jiribam has been barred to travel to Ukhrul. Similarly, Ukhrul district has also been barred to travel to the above nine districts of the state as the curfew order came into effect.

During the period of curfew, SDM as incident commanders along with district police officers has been directed to ensure that the public curfew is strictly enforced.

It may be stated that the Chairperson, state executive committee had issued orders on 28 May imposing curfew till 11 June restricting activities to only few essential commodities in the districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching , Churachandpur and Ukhrul.

However, as the number of infections of the COVID-19 virus detected and deaths remains high in the State and as there is need to continue with the restriction till the prevailing situation shows considerable decline, the chairperson in exercise of the powers conferred upon him had further extended the curfew in the above seven districts with limited permitted activities and the guidelines including restrictions on inter district movements in respect of the remaining nine (9) districts, as per the latest order issued on Friday.
