Manipur government has extended curfew in the seven districts till May 28 as the state sees no respite from the daily COVID-19 surge.

Following a rapid increase in the infections and with a view to check the spread, the state government placed its most affected seven districts –Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Ukhrul district under curfew.

The nine-day curfew commenced on May 8 was due to end on May 17. However, an order of the state Home department issued late Monday extended the curfew till May 28 with additional permitted activities and restrictions.

“The virulence of the COVID-19 virus continues unabated and the need for stringent measures to check physical contact amongst people still exists”, the order extending the curfew stated. The order gave relaxation to certain activities during the extended curfew.
