DGP Rajiv Singh Reviews Drone Bombing Damage in Manipur, Promises New Countermeasures

IMPHAL, Sept 3: The Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, Rajiv Singh, has taken stock of the situation at Imphal West’s Koutruk, Kadangband and Senjam Chirang today.

The DGP accompanied by senior officers of Manipur Police, the Manipur Rifles and IRB visited the sites damaged by drone bombings reportedly carried out by Kuki militants in the last two days.

During the visit, Rajiv Singh also interacted with the locals of the villages and heard their complaints.

Responding to media queries, the police chief said that a committee has been set up to study the drone attacks and to counter it.

He stated that he had spoken with the experts in this connection besides the Chief Minister of Manipur taking up the matter with the higher authorities.

The DGP went on to express optimism that a means to tackle drone bombings will soon be developed and deployed.

He stated that the state forces and the Central forces have been constantly conducting combing operations in the hill areas and recovered arms and other weapons.

Speaking about the deployment of Central forces in the state, Rajiv Singh maintained that there is still the requirement of large numbers of security forces in the state. As such, the state forces alone cannot meet the security requirement as the same have also been deployed in maintaining law and order and traffic control among other purposes, he added.

He informed that there is the deployment of 198 companies of different Central forces in the state besides the Assam Rifles at present.

The state forces and the Central forces will continue to combine and work towards bringing peace in the state, he continued, adding that the complaints coming against the Central forces will be taken up to the senior officers.
