UKHRUL: The Churachandpur Doctors Association expressed its deepest concern and disapproval regarding the “recent unfortunate incidents” that unfolded on Wednesday night following the transfer of three men belonging to the Kuki community from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital to Churachandpur District Hospital.
According to sources, a fire broke out in some sections of the hospital on Wednesday night. It is alleged that the fire was not accidental. Reportedly, some unknown miscreants also attempted to storm the hospital’s operation theatre and tried to vandalise hospital property. The Churachandpur Doctors Association further noted that a burglary was reported at the office of the Chief Medical Officer.
“Keeping in mind that the district hospital is the first referral government hospital serving the people of Churachandpur and its neighbouring districts, we earnestly appeal to the public to maintain peace, exercise restraint, and kindly cooperate in preserving the sanctity of the hospital environment,” the association stated.

The transfer of the three individuals to Churachandpur comes amid recent protests in Manipur’s Imphal Valley, which began on Monday and intensified on Tuesday, with large crowds attempting to enter RIMS Hospital. The three men were reportedly injured in an alleged firing incident that occurred on Monday morning at Leilon Munlui, located between Leilon Vaiphei and Konsakhul.
Protesters, comprising members of the Naga and Meitei communities, demanded that the three injured persons be removed from the hospital, alleging that they were militants. Kuki organisations also stated that the three youths should not have been admitted to RIMS in the first place, given the prevailing ethnic tensions.

They further alleged that the three were injured when armed cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) and the Kamson faction of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) opened fire on people near Leilon Vaiphei village at around 6 a.m. on June 15.
