NSS Units of SEMCO, United College to Observe National Sports Day

CHANDEL: The NSS Units of South East Manipur College (SEMCO), Kapaam and United College, Lambung in Chandel district will observe the National Sports Day on August 27, 2026, marking the birth anniversary of legendary hockey icon Major Dhyan Chand.

Addressing media persons at their respective colleges on Tuesday, Dr. Ngamthen Serbum, Programme Officer of NSS Unit SEMCO and Dr. Augustine Roel, Programme Officer of NSS Unit United College, Lambung informed that this year’s celebration will be organised under the nationwide Khelo India Samwad initiative with special focus on youth participation, sports development and nation-building.

They informed that under the programme, Yuva Connect will be organised at SEMCO in Kapaam and at United College in Lambung respectively. This programme will give youths an opportunity to interact directly with sportspersons, MPs, MLAs, Ministers and local leaders, Dr. Ngamthen and Dr. Augustine said during their press conferences at their respective colleges.

The initiative also aims to highlight the transformation of India’s sports ecosystem over the past 12 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while providing a platform for youth to share their ideas and aspirations, they added.

The Programme Officers of the NSS Units also informed that on August 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually address over eight lakh young participants gathered at around 1,600 locations across the country.

Following the virtual address, Yuva Samvaad, local interaction programmes will be held where MY Bharat Volunteers and sportspersons will discuss sports infrastructure, growth of the sports ecosystem and opportunities for aspiring athletes, the two officers said.

The Yuva Samvaad will centre on four key themes — strengthening the grassroots sports ecosystem, nurturing talent for the 2036 Olympics, enhancing youth leadership in governance, and empowering youth for Viksit Bharat.

The Programme Officers of NSS Units, SEMCO and United College, Lambung respectively appealed to the youths of Chandel to actively participate in the National Sports Day celebration and share their vision during the interaction sessions.
