Senapati, August 16: The Department of Social Work, Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram, carried out two major field activities in August 2025, an orientation visit for 1st Semester students and a rural camp for 3rd Semester students.
From August 4 to 7, 2025, the 1st Semester BSW students undertook an orientation visit to five organisations in Senapati, the ART Centre (Senapati), CCM, SDYC, MANEDA, and KVK. The programme was guided by faculty members Immanuel Fimate and Ms. Thanchuiliu Gangmei. The visit provided exposure to healthcare, youth development, agriculture, and rural empowerment, while also allowing students to interact with professionals and observe organisational functioning. The Department acknowledged the support of Lungnila Elizabeth College staff and administration, along with all host organisations, for their cooperation during the visit.

Subsequently, from August 8 to 15, 2025, the 3rd Semester BSW students conducted their annual rural camp at Purul Atongba Village, Senapati District. A total of 38 students participated under the guidance of Dr. Evergreat Wanglar, Head of Department, and Ms. Thanchuiliu Gangmei, Assistant Professor. The camp was inaugurated with an invocation by Th. Joseph, Assistant Catechist, and the flag hoisting by Chief Guest Fr. Horam Joel, Vice Principal of Rosary School, Purul.
The camp featured activities such as Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), a household survey, a cleanliness drive, an awareness programme, and a soft skills training session. The PRA included Social Mapping, Resource Mapping, Pie Chart, Seasonal Calendar, and Scoring & Ranking with active community participation. The soft skills session, held at Rosary School, Purul, benefitted 102 students and covered goal setting, time management, manners, politeness, and life goals. An awareness programme was conducted on the theme “Women’s Education and Empowerment”. Evening programmes included cultural events such as talent hunts, group performances, and cultural showcases.

The closing ceremony on August 15 was marked by the de-hoisting of the camp flag by Village Chief K. Lemo in the presence of Youth President Royo Rona. The Department expressed gratitude to the people of Purul Atongba Village, the Village Authority, Rosary School authorities, Lungnila Elizabeth College staff, and all participating organisations for their support in making both programmes successful.
