Imphal: Heavy firing, including use of mortars was reported in between Kwakta and Kangvai in Churachandpur District and its adjoining areas since 5 am on Thursday.
Sources told Ukhrul Times that Kuki Zo village defence volunteers got engaged in retaliatory firing after receiving heavy firing from the valley side.
However, the Manipur Police Commandos has said that the ongoing gunfight is with Kuki armed groups.
The fresh firing is also reported in the same area in Terakhongshangbi, Phougakchao Ikhai, Gothol, all the villages located within the same area connected by the main lifeline, Tiddim Road that connects Imphal to Churachandpur District.
Sources have further added that there could be casualty from both sides as the heavy firing, including use of heavy weaponry that began from dawn today is still ongoing sporadically.

One casualty (identity of the deceased in not revealed) with report of two Village volunteers have been reported till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, according to police report on July 26, an unruly mob burnt around 15/16 abandoned houses and partially burnt the Forest Guest House at Moreh. Security Forces intervened and dispersed the mob.
