First Naga tribal woman Judge in Manipur High Court

Imphal: Boosting the social diversity and representation of marginalised sections in the higher judiciary of India, Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, a judicial officer has been appointed to be a judge of the Manipur high court in an order by Government of India on Friday.

The Union government’s notification announced the appointment of three judges (one Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Cast and OBC each) in the high courts of Manipur and Madras.

With this notification, Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, wife of Gonglin Phaomei IPS (IG) Government of Manipur is all set to become the first Naga tribal judge in the high court of Manipur.

According to LiveLaw, Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui’s name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in January this year.

“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, to be a Judge of the Manipur High Court with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office,” GoI notification wrote
