Liangmai Naga Council Manipur resolves to ban poppy plantation in Liangmai inhabited areas

Tamenglong: The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M), the apex organisation of Liangmai Naga tribe, in its half yearly meeting held on  October 12, 2023 at Tamah, (Piuleklong) Tamei sub- division, Tamenglong district, in its resolution number 4 the general body unanimously resolved to ban poppy plantation/cultivation in Liangmai Naga inhabited areas of Manipur with immediate effect.

As such, the LNC directed all the concerned village authorities to destroy poppy fields within October 2023 failing which the LNC will take stern actions against poppy planters.

The Liangmai body further resolved in its meeting that no portion of land or forest will be allowed to carry out or leased out to anyone for the purpose of poppy plantation in “Liangmai Naga areas.”

The LNC then appealed to the government of the India and Government of Manipur to take up serious action to eradicate against the illegal poppy plantations and appealed to all the right thinking citizens to contribute and give the best effort to create a drug free community.
