Noney: Normal life has been badly affected in Noney and Tamenglong districts due to incessant rainfall.
All the major rivers in the two district like Barak, Makru, Alang, Agah and Leimatak have been flooded as water levels reaches danger mark.
Mudslides and rockslides have occurred in several locations of National Highway-37, Old Cachar Road, Khongshang Tamenglong Road and Tamenglong Shorcut Road (via NH-37 Rangkhung to Tamenglong) following heavy rainfall.
Morever, passengers and goods carrying vehicles coming from Noney and Imphal via NH-37 were stranded at both sides due to landslides. Continuous rainfall and rolling down of boulders have made it difficult for excavator to clear the road. The ongoing construction of two lane at NH-37 is reported to be the major cause of frequent and continuous landslide. Under the circumstances, stranded drivers and passengers seek immediate help and quick response from the authority.
In another incident, a major landslide occurred at Old Cachar road, Tongjei Maril Road, between Rengpaeng and Taodaijang village. Most of farmer’s paddy field for the season is reported to have been completely flooded in Khoupum valley.
