KOHIMA, September 25: Four people have reportedly died and four others fallen ill in Mangkolemba Sub-Division of Mokokchung district following suspected consumption of adulterated liquor, according to Mokokchung Police.
Police said the victims were suspected to have consumed adulterated MC Rum.
The latest incident comes weeks after nine people died in Tuensang and Chendang Saddle between September 10 and 12 following suspected consumption of spurious or adulterated liquor. Police said the victims had consumed liquor before developing symptoms including blurred vision, severe headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. However, a scientific link between the deaths and spurious liquor has not yet been established.

Mangkolemba Police Station has registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act in connection with the incident.
Six people have been arrested and suspected spurious liquor has also been seized, police said.
The exact cause of the deaths and illnesses remains under investigation. Police are also working to trace the source and supply chain of the suspected liquor and identify those involved in its manufacture, transportation, distribution or sale.
Police have warned that liquor from the suspected source may have been distributed to other parts of the state and advised the public against consuming liquor from unknown or suspected sources.
They have also appealed to the public to report suspected sales of adulterated liquor and provide information about those involved in the illegal trade to help prevent further casualties.
