UKHRUL: The factional conflict between two rival groups of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN)—the Yung Aung-led faction and the Angmai-led faction—has continued to escalate in Myanmar, particularly in areas close to the Indo–Myanmar border, sources familiar with the developments said.
According to sources, cadres of the Angmai-led NSCN allegedly carried out an attack on the Yung Aung faction on February 1 in the Jethrawk area of Sagaing Province, approximately 20 kilometres from the Indo–Myanmar international border near Pangsau Pass. The attack reportedly resulted in the death of four cadres belonging to the Yung Aung faction who were residing in Sumpha Ga (Jethawarak), sources said.
Sources indicated that the assault was part of an ongoing power struggle between the two factions. The Angmai-led NSCN is believed to be attempting to maintain its dominance and influence in the strategically significant Pangsau Pass region, a key corridor along the India–Myanmar border, sources added.
The latest incident has heightened concerns over security in the border areas, where factional rivalries among armed groups have intensified in recent times, according to informed sources.
Meanwhile, official sources said the authorities are closely monitoring the situation. However, further details regarding the attack and the casualties are yet to be officially confirmed.
