Fresh Violence in Manipur claims 2 lives, 3 others injured

Imphal: Fresh violence in Manipur has claimed two lives and left three others injured on Tuesday.

Intense firing was reported at Kadangband area and Koutruk hills adjoining Imphal West and Kangpokpi District in the afternoon. Intermittent firing was still reported during late evening between armed groups.

The two deceased persons as well as the three injured persons are all Meitei/Meetei from the valley. The deceased are identified as Meishnam Khaba Meitei (25) of Sagoltongba Mamang Leikai, and Nongthombam Michel Singh (32) of Konung Leikai, Palace Compound. Their bodies have been taken to RIMS morgue.

Out of the three injured, one is identified as Sanjit Ngangom (19) from Kadangband. He was rushed to RIMS hospital by a Red Cross team in the afternoon, now said to be out of danger.

The other two injured persons were rushed to RIMS hospital later in the evening. One of them sustained bullet injury on his right foot for which he has been operated upon, said sources.
