UKHRUL: The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has mourned the passing of Gen (Rtd) Thinoselie M. Keyho, describing him as an exemplary leader whose life was marked by commitment, perseverance and unwavering devotion to Naga nationalism.
Gen (Rtd) Keyho passed away on October 29, 2026.
In a condolence message jointly issued by Chuba Ozukum, convenor, and Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichü, co-convenor of the GNF, the forum said his demise was not only a personal loss to those who knew and worked alongside him but also an occasion for the Naga people to reflect on the kind of leadership they need and the principles they wish to pass on to future generations.

Highlighting his leadership qualities, the forum said Gen. Thinoselie demonstrated that leadership was a duty demanding sacrifice, courage and fidelity to one’s convictions rather than a pursuit of personal recognition, status or power. It noted that he chose a style of leadership rooted in the culture and traditions of the Naga people.
Gen. Thinoselie’s active service to the Naga national cause began in 1956 when he served as secretary to the director of intelligence of the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN/NNC). He remained committed to the national cause through decades of changing challenges and subsequently rose to higher positions through his dedication and leadership.
His service included multiple missions to East Pakistan and China, besides periods of imprisonment in Tihar Jail and Shillong. The GNF said he remained steadfast in the aspirations of Naga national pioneers and was not deterred by perceived or real threats.
In 2016, he was appointed president of the Naga National Council (NNC), a responsibility he continued to hold until his death.
Apart from his involvement in the Naga national cause, Gen. Thinoselie also served as president of the Angami Public Organization. The forum described him as a patriot who kept his personal identity and interests distinct from the larger national cause and his public responsibilities.
While acknowledging that his contributions rarely received the recognition they deserved, the GNF said he remained steadfast in upholding what he believed to be right and true.
