IMPHAL/UKHRUL: Manipur home minister Govindas Konthoujam on Thursday accused the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Samajwadi Party and other opposition parties of using the banner of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to create unrest and disrupt the functioning of Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon Session, while asserting that attempts were being made to weaken India’s democratic institutions.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP Manipur Pradesh office in Imphal, Govindas Konthoujam alleged that several opposition parties were operating under the name of CJP and claimed that one of its leaders had earlier worked with the Aam Aadmi Party. He also questioned the mobilisation of protesters under the CJP banner and alleged that certain foreign countries and foreign-funded NGOs were attempting to destabilise India.

Referring to recent remarks by the chief justice on fake certificates, the home minister alleged that the opposition had deliberately distorted the comments to mislead the public and create unnecessary controversy.
On the issue of NEET examination paper leaks, Govindas said prime minister Narendra Modi has already made it clear that those involved in paper leak cases will be dealt with strictly under the law. He added that the Centre has decided to establish fast-track courts to ensure the speedy trial of such cases and bring those responsible to justice.
On the recent bomb blast that destroyed a bailey bridge linking Chatric village with the Kamjong district headquarters, Govindas Konthoujam said two different versions had emerged after the incident. One report alleged the involvement of miscreants from outside the country, while another claimed the blast was intended to disrupt the movement of Assam Rifles personnel. He, however, clarified that neither was an official report and said the matter is under investigation.
The Bailey bridge, which serves as the road link between Chatric village and the Kamjong district headquarters, was blown up in a powerful explosion, snapping road connectivity to the remote border village. Authorities are investigating the incident to ascertain those responsible.
