Heavy rainfall expected in Nagaland due to ‘Sitrang’ cyclonic storm

Dimapur: The Nagaland Home department said today that information has been received from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, Assam, Indian Meteorological Department (Ministry of Earth Science), Government of India concerning heavy rainfall activity over Nagaland during October 24 to 26, 2022, due to the cyclonic storm ‘Sitrang’ over west central and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal.

According to the Home department, the  Indian Meteorological Department  l has issued a forecast of the probable impact of the cyclone, which includes, poor visibility, traffic disruption due to water logging and uprooting of trees, landslides, flash floods, damage to power and communication lines, damage to standing crops, lightning and damage to vulnerable structures like hoardings, tents and display board, etc.

Therefore, all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and concerned departments have been directed to be prepared and vigilant for any eventualities including disruption to normal services and activities in their respective districts and/or in their respective departmental area of concern, and all citizens of the State have been advised to take cautions during these periods for their safety

Any person violating any order/direction under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, will be liable for action under the relevant section of law.
