Hueiyen Lanpao editor Dhanabir Maibam detained by Imphal Police

Imphal: Dhanabir Maibam, the editor of Hueiyen Lanpao, one of the prominent vernacular dailies in Manipur, was detained by Imphal police on Friday morning.

However, the reason behind his detention remains unknown so far.

According to a source, the detention is likely due to the news publication by the media house concerning the ongoing law and order situation in the state.

The latest development comes just a week after a senior editor of the evening newspaper Kangleipakki Meira in Imphal was arrested for allegedly publishing unverified news that the government said was likely to cause communal disharmony and escalate unrest in the state.

Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, who served twice as president of All Manipur Working Journalists Union, was arrested on the basis of a suo moto case registered by the police.

The local court remanded him under police custody for three days and released on bail later.
