Ukhrul, Jan 9: Security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts in Manipur.

During the search operations, one 5.56 Heckler & Koch G3 Rifle with magazine, one .32 pistol with magazine, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, 10 rounds of 7.62 mm, one single barrel rifle and two tube launchers were recovered from Saheibung peak, Zero Point-Kotzim road under New Keithelmanbi Police Station, Kangpokpi district, as per a police report. Security forces in Manipur have intensified operations in vulnerable areas to maintain law and order.

In the past 24 hours, the movement of 136 goods-laden vehicles along National Highway 37 and 336 along National Highway 2 was ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police report also said.

A total of 109 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hills and the valley and no one was detained by police in connection with violations in different districts of the state, the Manipur police report added.
