TAMENGLONG/UKHRUL: Hundreds of people from Tamenglong headquarters on Saturday joined a mass rally organised by the Joint Tribes Council of Manipur (JTCM), representing the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme communities, under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC), pressing for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups and implementation of the September 26 Guwahati tripartite talks agreement.

The rally began at Apollo Ground and proceeded towards Haipou Jadonang Park in Tamenglong headquarters, where participants carried placards and banners highlighting three key demands: immediate abrogation of the SoO agreement, fulfilment of the commitments made during the Guwahati tripartite talks, and removal of Assam Rifles from border areas and conflict zones.

The rally was held amid a series of coordinated public demonstrations and sit-in protests across Naga-inhabited districts of Manipur on Saturday, pointing to growing demands for the implementation of the September 26 agreement reached between the Government of India, the Government of Manipur and the UNC in Guwahati.

On the same day, the UNC submitted a memorandum to Union home minister Amit Shah through the deputy commissioner of Senapati, seeking his intervention in the ongoing conflict in Manipur. The council reiterated its demands for SoO abrogation, withdrawal of Assam Rifles from border areas and conflict zones, time-bound implementation of the Guwahati agreement and an end to what it described as a proxy war against indigenous communities.

In a parallel demonstration in Chandel, 11 Naga tribal groups also participated in a rally organised by the Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO), extending support to demands raised by the UNC and the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI).
