Hunphun Kumpei Kazip 2025 Celebrated in Delhi

NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 10: The Hunphun Kumpei Kazip 2025, an annual gathering of Hunphun natives residing in the National Capital Region, was held with great enthusiasm and community spirit at Stephen Thomas Home, Delhi on Saturday.

Organized by the Hunphun Society Delhi (HSD) under the theme “Chikat Kasa I Hunphun Amachut” — Upholding Hunphun Identity — the event witnessed the participation of around 200 Hunphunnao living in the Delhi-NCR.

The programme began with host Masot Zingkhai welcoming everyone, followed by the Haokaphok Laa (opening song) – Hunphun Ayoram, and the Haokaphok Seiha (opening prayer) led by Lanaola Shimrah.

HSD chairman Ngayaipam A Shimray warmly greeted the gathering and reflected on how the Hunphuns are the chosen people of God, blessed with a unique heritage and responsibility to uphold their faith, identity, and values even while away from home.

One of the main highlights of the event was the Theme Exposition by David L Shimray, who spoke passionately on “Upholding Hunphun Identity through Language, Christianity, and Education.” He underlined that these three pillars form the foundation of Hunphun society and must continue to guide the community in preserving their cultural and spiritual roots.

Representing the Yorla (Hunphun women married to men from other villages), Lumhormi Chamlamva delivered a heartfelt message about her enduring love and connection to Hunphun. She shared how, despite being married outside, her heart and spirit remain deeply rooted in her Hunphun identity.

HSD finance secretary Akhum Rumthao presented the finance report for the tenure 2024-25, followed by an insightful motto explanation by community elder Khanthingpam Luikham. He expounded on the motto “Ningkha Yangkha Ngazipmei”, meaning “Uniting in mind and strength to keep the unity together.” He emphasized the importance of oneness and cooperation among Hunphuns wherever they are.

Felicitation of achievers was also held during the event. The event witnessed the introduction of new Phungva, and Lungchan Laa presentations led by Khangam Shimrah, Hoyam Kasomwoshi, Makhokmi Raleng, and Kachingmi Zingkhai. Fun activities such as the lottery, tambola coordinated by Sothingam Shaiza, added cheer to the evening.

A key moment of the day was the nomination of the leaders of Hunphun Society Delhi for the next tenure.  Worthing Ragui has been appointed as the new HSD chairman. 

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Akhum Rumthao, followed by a photo session led by Yanwor Chiphang. The evening ended with a delightful community dinner, marking yet another successful and memorable Hunphun Kumpei Kazip — a celebration of faith, unity, and cultural pride among Hunphunnao in Delhi.
