Imphal: Manipur Police Inspector General (Intelligence) (IG) Kabib K has made an urgent appeal to the public to assist the state police in maintaining peace following numerous protests across the valley districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching in the past 24 hours. While most protests adhered to democratic norms, several incidents of violence were reported in areas such as Kakwa Bazar, Uripok, and parts of Ima Keithel.
Speaking to the press, IG Kabib K expressed concern over the use of firearms and petrol bombs by some protestors, particularly in Kakwa Bazar and Uripok areas, where more than 10 policemen, including a VDF personnel, were injured. Protestors, including many students, also sustained injuries in these clashes. IG Kabib further stated that many of the students involved are juveniles, raising questions about the presence of outsiders and instigators who are believed to be fueling the violence.
IG Kabib urged local communities and parents to closely monitor their children’s participation in protests, as many students are being influenced by external forces. He emphasized that protests should remain peaceful and that outsiders should not be allowed to disrupt the demonstrations. He reassured the public that the police are committed to working with them to ensure peace and stability, urging everyone to avoid violence.
