Ukhrul: Manipur Police has strongly refuted recent remarks made by Retired Lieutenant General PC Nair, former Director General of Assam Rifles, regarding the Manipur police force, calling the comments “unfounded, unreasonable, irresponsible, and baseless.”

The police addressed the issue during a press conference held at Manipur Police Headquarters, Babupara, on Tuesday. Briefing the media, Manipur Police IG I.K. Muivah condemned Retd. Lt. Gen. Nair’s comments made during an interview with News Nine, where he claimed, “There is no Manipur Police; there is Meitei Police, Kuki Police.”

IG Muivah emphasized that Manipur Police comprises personnel from all communities across the state, dismissing any notion of division along ethnic or communal lines. He criticized Nair’s comments as misleading and lacking an understanding of the situation.

Regarding the ongoing protests in the state, IG Muivah called for peaceful demonstrations and urged the public to avoid engaging in violence. He noted that in recent rallies, some miscreants had attempted to provoke violent confrontations, which could escalate tensions.

The police warned against instigators on social media and in public, cautioning that strict action would be taken against anyone inciting violence. Manipur Police IG (Administration) K. Jayanta and IG (Intelligence) Kabib K. were also present at the press conference.
