Imphal, October 17: The Indian Army, in a statement issued on Friday, said it organised a lecture on the Battle of Walong at Kumbi College in Bishnupur district in Manipur, to mark Walong Day and pay tribute to the heroic soldiers of the 1962 Indo-China War.

The event was held to commemorate the gallantry and supreme sacrifice of Indian troops during the Battle of Walong, fought in the Lohit Valley of Arunachal Pradesh from November 14 to 16, 1962.

According to the Army’s statement, the lecture provided a detailed account of the operational challenges, leadership, and acts of heroism displayed by Indian soldiers who fought valiantly against overwhelming enemy forces and adverse conditions.

A short documentary and photo exhibition depicting scenes from the battle were also showcased, evoking deep emotion and pride among the audience. The programme concluded with two minutes of silence in honour of the fallen heroes.

The Army also said that the event served as a reminder of the “indomitable” spirit, courage, and dedication of Indian soldiers, inspiring the youth to uphold the same values of patriotism and selfless service to the nation.
