Ukhrul, Mar 12: In a significant step toward promoting women’s health and hygiene, the Indian Army organized a Special Medical Camp for Women at Kanto Sabal Relief Camp, Leimakhong, Imphal West, Manipur. The initiative aimed to provide essential healthcare services, raise awareness about menstrual hygiene, and distribute free sanitary pads to support the local women populace.

The camp featured free health check-ups, medicine distribution, and health screenings for anemia, hypertension, diabetes, and personal health issues faced by women. A total of 200 women actively participated in the medical camp, with Indian Army healthcare professionals conducting consultations, counselling, and guiding on menstrual health, mental health, nutrition, and safe hygiene practices.

As part of the event, an awareness session was held to educate women on the importance of self-breast examination and cervical care for early detection of breast cancer and cervical cancer. The event also marked the importance of using sanitary products, with further emphasis on prevention of cervical infections. The session also aimed to break taboos surrounding menstruation, and encouraged open conversations about women’s health.

Recognizing the financial barriers that is faced by local women in accessing sanitary products, the Indian Army took the initiative to distribute free sanitary pads to more than 200 women. This step aligns with ongoing efforts to promote overall menstrual and personal health and improve the well-being of women in the community.

This special medical camp for women reflects the Indian Army’s commitment and dedication to empowering women through healthcare initiatives. By addressing critical health concerns and ensuring access to basic hygiene products, the initiative fosters a healthier, well-informed society by advancing women’s hygiene and health.
