UKHRUL: The Indian Army provided textile equipment and yarn supplies to a textile unit at Nungkot village in Imphal East district under Operation SADBHAVNA, with the initiative aimed at supporting local weavers and creating livelihood opportunities.
A textile drum, storage unit, yarn bank and other essential yarn materials were handed over to the unit to enable weavers to carry out textile-related processes independently. The initiative is also expected to reduce their dependence on private facilities in Imphal for essential processing.
The initiative seeks to support sustainable livelihoods while promoting traditional weaving practices in the region. Weavers were encouraged to incorporate traditional motifs and designs with new patterns and explore markets outside Manipur.
According to the Indian Army, the initiative draws on the experience of textile units established at Lamlai in Imphal East and Zakhama in Kohima district, Nagaland, which have been developed as models for livelihood generation and community self-reliance.
The Army said the initiative is part of its community development efforts under Operation SADBHAVNA and is intended to support economic opportunities for local communities.
