Internally Displaced Persons Protest for Safe Return and Dignity

Imphal, May 2: As Manipur’s ongoing crisis reaches its second anniversary on May 3, 2025, the pain of displacement remains raw and unresolved for thousands of people.

Marking this grim milestone, internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Meetei community staged demonstrations across relief camps in the valley districts of Manipur today, demanding their right to return home, even if only for a day.

Gathered under the banner of the Peace Committee Kangleipak, Manipur, the demonstrators held placards that voiced deep anguish over two years of forced separation from their homes.

“It is better to stay in jail despite having a home. We are living like refugees in our own land, and we are exhausted,” many of the protesters lamented, highlighting their plea for a safe and dignified return.

Speaking to the media, Kh. Rajesh, president of the committee, stressed the urgent need for dialogue and mutual understanding across affected regions.

He appealed to both the Central and State governments to expedite measures for restoring lasting peace and ensuring the safe return of displaced Meetei people to their homesteads.
