UKHRUL: The Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation, Indigenous Youth Force of Arunachal and All Naharlagun Youth Organisation called a 12 hour bandh in Itanagar Capital Region on Tuesday (December 9)
According to a senior police officer, markets, banks, educational institutions and business establishments have remained shut. Government offices also witnessed thin attendance.
The organizations demand the cancellation of illegal construction of mosques and madrasas, removal of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and a ban on weekly markets in the capital region.
Youth organizations in recent months have conducted inspections of several mosques across the region, with videos of these checks widely circulated on social media.
The groups have also claimed a rise in the number of “illegal settlers” allegedly entering the state without the mandatory Inner Line Permit (ILP).
ICR Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu declared the bandh illegal and directed it to be called off. Speaking to the media, IGP (Law & Order) Chukhu Apa urged the organisations not to take law into their hands.
