Imphal, July 17: The Directorate of Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD), Government of Manipur, has announced that Jiribam Municipal Council has been awarded under the “Most Promising Town” category in the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024–25, held in New Delhi.
The prestigious award ceremony was graced by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and the Hon’ble Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar.

Among the 27 Urban Local Bodies in Manipur, Jiribam stood out as a leading example of community-driven sanitation efforts, ranking number one among 21 small towns (with populations below 20,000) in the North Eastern Region. On the national level, Jiribam secured the 174th position out of 2,035 towns in its category. The Municipal Council is also certified as a ‘Garbage Free City’ (GFC) 3 Star and ODF++ by the Ministry.
The Manipur delegation to the award ceremony was led by RK Dinesh Singh, Principal Secretary (MAHUD), accompanied by Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director (MAHUD), S. Shanti Devi, Chairperson of Jiribam Municipal Council, and Moirangthem Surjit, Executive Officer of Jiribam Municipal Council, who collectively received the award on behalf of the State.

Following the award ceremony, the Manipur team also participated in a high-level brainstorming session with the Hon’ble Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and other state representatives. The session focused on reviewing the progress of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), with discussions on accelerating implementation, ensuring outcome-based monitoring, and fostering innovation in sanitation and housing.
The Directorate of MAHUD congratulated the people of Jiribam and reiterated its commitment to promoting urban cleanliness, sustainable waste management, and active citizen participation across all Urban Local Bodies in Manipur.
