JNIMS hospital vandalised by angry mob

An angry group of people on Wednesday ransacked furniture and other properties of JNIMS hospital, Imphal, before police put the situation under control.

The people got angry after a 36-year-old woman, identified as Oinam Sashibala Devi of Leishangthem Awang Leikai in Thoubal district, died on Wednesday after giving birth to a child. They alleged that medical negligence on the part of the doctors attending the woman as the cause of the death. Reports said that she gave birth to a child on January 31 and died early Wednesday morning.

Family and relatives of the deceased alleged the health of the woman got deteriorated after the caesarean delivery. 

Soon after the death of the woman, a large number of people from her locality and relatives stormed the JNIMS hospital and indulged in the vandalism.

A team of Imphal East district who rushed to the spot pushed the agitating people from the administrative block of the hospital where they ransacked furniture and other hospital properties.

However, they refused to go back, demanding a meeting with hospital authorities and settling the matter. They demanded an apology from the doctors attending the woman among others.

The agitating people calmed down only after the JNIMS director held talks with family members and relatives of the deceased woman.
