Kamjong: The combined team of Kamjong district administration, Kamjong Police, 24 Assam Rifles, Forest Department and NAB on Tuesday carried out the destruction of poppy cultivation at Chongdan, Bohoram and Itham under Kasom Khullen sub-division, Kamjong district, Manipur.

Under the supervision of deputy commissioner of Kamjong and SP of Kamjong, the combined team was led by executive magistrate (SDM Phungyar) and Additional SP of Kamjong (L & O). Along with the personnel of 24 Assam Rifles of Shangshak Battalion, Forest Department and NAB conducted illegal poppy plantation destruction in Chongdan, Bohoram, and Itham under Kasom Khullen sub-division, Kamjong district and destroyed around an area of 15 acres.

The executive magistrate also interacted with the villagers, sensitising the negative impact of illegal poppy plantations that are blossoming in the area. The villagers in general are happy that the state government is taking bold steps to eliminate poppy cultivation causing many social and environmental hazards to the people living in and around these areas.
DC of Kamjong Rang Peter informed that “the district administration will leave no stone unturned to eliminate poppy cultivation in the Kamjong district.”

According to the police report, no cultivators were seen during the drive, so no arrests were made. A regular case under FIR No. 06(11)2023 KKL PS was registered at Kasom Khullen police station against unknown poppy cultivators. Arrest will also be made after identifying each of the illegal cultivators. The drive will continue in all the adjacent villages of Itham Tangkhul where extensive poppy cultivation is observed.
