UKHRUL:  All Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Kangpokpi district, under the aegis of the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, have jointly resolved to abstain from participating in the welcoming programme of President Droupadi Murmu’s visit on Friday.

The CSOs — Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills (KISH), Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills Chief Association (SAHILCA), Thadou-Inpi Sadar Hills & IDPs under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, in a statement, have expressed dissatisfaction and disappointment over the proposed visit of the President of India to Senapati district Headquarters on December 12, while completely neglecting the conflict-affected Kuki-Zo people of Kangpokpi district.

The Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills stated that despite being the most severely affected community in the ongoing Manipur conflict, the proposed visit of the President of India makes no mention of meeting, assessing or acknowledging the suffering and humanitarian distress of the Kuki-Zo IDPs in Kangpokpi district.

“Since May 3, 2023, the Kuki-Zo people have been subjected to unprecedented violence and displacement. Thousands were forcibly driven out from Imphal, and relentless attacks on innocent villagers have resulted in the tragic loss of more than 200 precious lives. Over 50,000 Kuki-Zo persons continue to live as internally displaced persons in multiple relief camps across the district, enduring dire and deplorable conditions for more than two years,” the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills stated.

Expressing disappointment over the exclusion, the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills stated that the “regrettable oversight” has caused widespread pain and dismay among the displaced population and the civil society organisations working tirelessly for their welfare.

It reiterated its appeal to the Government of India and all concerned authorities to recognise the prolonged suffering of the Kuki-Zo people, address the humanitarian crisis urgently, and ensure that justice, dignity, and rehabilitation are prioritised without delay.
