Shillong, Feb 26: Newly elected members of the two Autonomous District Councils in Meghalaya – the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) – will take oath on Thursday, and they will elect the Chairman and Chief Executive Member (CEM) on Friday.
On Thursday, oaths to the newly elected members of KHADC will be administered by the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District and the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaiñtia Hills District for members of the JHADC.

The election of the CEM of the two Councils will be conducted by their respective Chairman.
However, the election to the post of Chairman of both the Councils will be conducted by the respective Deputy Commissioners.
The Governor has summoned a two-day meeting of the KHADC and JHADC for the oath taking of members on Thursday, and election of Chairman and election of the CEM on Friday.

The election of the Chairman of the KHADC and JHADC has been scheduled at 11am, and the election of the CEM of both the Councils will be held at 2 pm respectively.
In the just concluded elections to the KHADC and JHADC held on February 21, the Voice of People Party (VPP) won 17 out of 29 seats in KHADC and it will form the new Executive Committee on its own.

The ruling NPP won just 4 seats and the UDP got 5 seats, besides two Independents and the HSPDP got one seat.
The VPP however won only 8 out of 29 seats in JHADC, while the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) is the single largest party in JHADC as it won 13 out of 29 seats. The NPP will again take the lead in the formation of the new Executive Committee with the support of Independents and other parties.
The UDP won 3 seats, and the Congress also got 3 seats besides 2 Independents.
