Kohima Hosts Tribal Walkathon for Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2024

Kohima, November 15: The Tribal Walkathon commemorating Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2024 took place on Friday in Kohima, aligning with India’s 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. Dr. Kekhrie Yhome, Advisor for School Education & SCERT, served as the special guest and officially flagged off the event.

In his remarks, Dr. Yhome highlighted the significance of the walkathon, stating, “This walkathon serves as a tribute to India’s rich tribal heritage and is a meaningful part of the broader celebrations honoring the nation’s journey to independence.” He emphasized the importance of acknowledging and celebrating the invaluable contributions of tribal communities to India’s history and culture, reflecting pride in the nation’s diverse heritage.

The walkathon saw enthusiastic participation from various tribes of Nagaland, with participants dressed in their colorful traditional attire. It began at 7:00 a.m., starting from the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Gate and concluding at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Gate. The vibrant display of traditional attire showcased the unique heritage of each tribe, making the event a visually striking and meaningful tribute to Nagaland’s rich tribal diversity as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebrations.

The event was moderated by M. Kichung, Nodal Officer, and opened with a welcome address by Angelina Tajen, NCS Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department.
