Imphal, Aug 10: The Kuki Inpi Manipur has expressed strong disapproval of recent statements made by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, suggesting that the state government is preparing to hold peace talks with representatives of the Kuki-Zo people. The Kuki Inpi Manipur has condemned these remarks as misleading and inaccurate, clarifying that the Kuki-Zo community is not open to negotiations with the current Manipur state government.

In a formal statement, the Kuki Inpi Manipur emphasized that any implication of dialogue with the Manipur government is false. The organization reiterated its firm stance against engaging in negotiations with those it accuses of perpetrating ethnic violence against the Kuki-Zo people. This stance follows the group’s recent refusal of an invitation from Shri Dinganglung Gangmei, Chairman of the Hill Area Committee, Manipur. The Kuki Inpi Manipur’s letter (Ref No. NIL Dated 08-05-2024) made it clear that they no longer recognize the authority of the Manipur state government, which they accuse of orchestrating an ethnic cleansing campaign against their community.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur’s executive resolution highlights their rejection of any peace and reconciliation efforts with the Manipur state government and the Meiteis without first achieving justice for the extensive suffering endured by the Kuki-Zo people. The organization labeled such proposals as “fools’ cry,” deeming them absurd and nonsensical in the absence of justice.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur affirmed that their primary focus remains on pursuing justice and that they seek the establishment of a “Union Territory with Legislative Powers” as a crucial step towards ensuring justice for the Kuki-Zo people. They also clarified that no individual or entity has been authorized to represent the Kuki-Zo people in discussions or negotiations with the Manipur state government. Any claims to the contrary are described as baseless and misleading.
