UT News Service | Aug 12: In a strong worded letter to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki tribe on August 10 wrote to PM Modi “to consider the situation of the Kukis before finalization of the Frame Work Agreement” adding “Any solution made without legal settlement of Kuki problem first will sow seed of social chaos and will cause extensive social & political upheaval in the region”.

KIM’s letter to PM Modi reaffirmed on “Kuki political stance on peace and harmony in our state, and in relation to the ongoing tripartite political dialogue on Kuki political future”, it said that KIM “firm belief in peaceful coexistence between the three major communities, Meitei, Kuki and Kacha Nagas”, pointing out that “Th Muivah led NSCN IM continuously sought to undermine the rights of the Kuki people over territories they have inhabited long before and since the country’s constitution came into force”, the letter said.

KIM further said, “of the 16 districts in Manipur, the Kukis dominate five of them namely Chandel, Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Pherzawl and Churachandpur” saying “the issue of the Naga integration has aroused fear in our minds that vast majority of our land will be included in the proposed Naga Territorial Council”.

“The Kuki can’t forget the ethnic cleansing carried out by the NSCN IM with the sole intention to forcibly seize lands belonging to the Kukis”, the letter said.
